A seasonally flooded wetland near the Nicaraguan border, explored by boat. In the dry season waterbirds gather on the shrinking lagoons, and spectacled caimans, green iguanas, howler monkeys, sloths and basilisks are easy to see from the water. It is one of the best places in Costa Rica to look for jabiru and sunbittern.
